On Saturday, 25th March, 2017, the snowpark in Pec pod Sněžkou hosted the first race of the Europa Cup in history. In total, 41 participants from several countries gathered at the starting line. Besides local riders, there were athletes from Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Spain, Finland, Argentina and Austria.
In Women, Natalie Šlepecká from Slovakia dominated the race, just before Kateryna Kotsar from Ukraine. Bronze was taken by Barbora Nováková from the Czech Republic, who proved all the hope pinned on her right.
As proved by Men’s Finals, there are tough people in the Nordic countries. The Scandinavian seedbed dominated, led by Finland. The six people qualified for the finals in heat 1 included 5 Finns and Czech Robin Holub. From heat 2, Pepé Kalenský managed to reach the finals. This athlete made his comeback after leaving races and starting to train young athletes to raise a future generation for the sport. And comeback it was!
With the performance a level higher than any other competitor, Elias Syrja from Finland took gold, followed by Joel Liimatainen from the same country. Pepé Kalenský’s great performance resulted in bronze.
